You have reached phone verification while creating a personal Gmail account, but the text code has not arrived. Google's account-verification help says messages can be delayed, especially where networks are busy or a carrier has problems. First check whether the screen says *code sent* or instead rejects the number. Those require different responses. This guide covers the missing signup SMS or voice call; it does not cover an email sent to an existing non-Gmail inbox or a code for signing in to an established account.
If Google sent an SMS but nothing arrived
- 1Confirm the country code and mobile number displayed in Google's official signup screen. Check that the phone has mobile service and can receive texts.
- 2Wait a few minutes. Google says carrier problems or busy locations may delay delivery; avoid requesting codes in a rapid loop.
- 3If Google's screen offers a phone call, try that option. Keep the phone available to answer or check voicemail.
- 4If the carrier blocks service messages or short codes, ask it about incoming verification texts. Use a number you are authorized to receive on.
- 5Enter the most recently requested code only on the Google page that initiated verification. Do not share it in a chat or with a support impersonator.
Available methods depend on what Google shows for that account, device, and region. A voice call is an option only when offered; a temporary number is not a dependable replacement for a number you control. If you are verifying a Google Account made with an *existing email address*, follow our missing Google verification email guide.
If the phone number is rejected instead
A message such as *This phone number has been used too many times for verification* is not a delivery delay. Google limits how often a number can be used. Its guidance is to use a different eligible number, with its owner's permission. Read our phone-number-used-too-many-times guide for that specific error. Do not keep requesting SMS to a number Google has already rejected.
For several independent Gmail accounts
Plan who owns each mailbox and who can receive provider verification and recovery messages. The Gmail Creator explains MailCreator's account-creation workflow for authorized batches, but Google still decides whether each signup and phone verification succeeds. Record the outcome of each account rather than treating a missing code as a completed mailbox.
